Manheim Township police filed charges against 25-year-old Jordan Antonio Ortiz which have now been upgraded after 23-year-old Kylee Carroll Ortiz died at Lancaster General on Sunday, April 9, 2023, authorities tell Daily Voice.
The police had been called to their home on Dickens Drive in Lancaster Township multiple times on April 2nd and 3rd for reports of domestic incidents, but Jordan repeatedly told the police they had only been arguing and "never touched her," as explained in the affidavit of probable cause.
On April 3rd, Kylee went to the ER with a raspy voice and told emergency staff she was choked/strangled at her home the previous night, Dr. Shakeel Amanullah told detectives with the MTPD.
Dr. Amanullah called the police to the hospital to investigate after Jordan brought Kylee in around 5 a.m. on Thursday, April 6. That's when detectives learned she had "a blood inflection that occurred from being choked/strangled," as stated in the affidavit.
Jordan was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and strangulation on Friday, April 7 and the additional charges in connection to her death were supposedly filed Monday, April 10, authorities told Daily Voice— although when asked for an official comment on the new filing we were told, "The police department is unable to comment on this at the present time."
Jordan is in Lancaster County Prison on $750,000 bail, according to his court docket.
Kylee's community has been grieving their loss on social media, posting about how she was "beautiful inside and out" and was an amazing mom.
Kylee was a class of 2023 Metro Beauty Academy graduate where she studied Esthetics, according to her Facebook. She is survived by her three children; 6-year-old Carter, 3-year-old Avianna, and 1-year-old Lexton, according to a GoFundMe started by Celeste Smith.
The children, "have to be taken in and cared for by family members until they can be reunited with their father," Smith writes.
The funds raised will "help support these Beautiful children," according to Smith.
The campaign has raised $1,640 of a $10,000 goal from 29 donations in its first four hours.
Kylee's father, Nolan Johnson has also started a GoFundMe and it has raised $3,270 of a $10,000 goal from 56 donations.
